There are thousands and thousands of books out there....which ones are worth the investment?  James White, Director of Alpha and Omega Ministries, author, professor, and bibliophile, would like to suggest the following works for those seeking solid, biblically-based, God-honoring works on Christian theology. Click on the images if present, on the name if not.  Clicking on the image or link will only give you more information on the book, and will give you the opportunity to choose to purchase the work or not.

The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul

This is one of R.C.'s best works.  Along with Chosen by God, this book made a tremendous impact on my life.  This is a "one sitting" book.   You will have trouble putting it down.  A must read.

Here is a tremendously friendly introduction to the "doctrines of grace," also known as "Calvinism."

SproulWilling.gif (15082 bytes)Willing to Believe by R.C. Sproul

Free will, free will.  It's all you ever hear.  What does it mean?   What does the Bible say?  An excellent study.  Another in this series that is a must read:

Faith Alone by R.C. Sproul

This excellent work addresses the issue of sola fide, the biblical teaching that we are justified by faith without the addition of human works or merit.

MurrayRomans.gif (6104 bytes) John Murray's Commentary on Paul's Epistle to the Romans

Looking for reliable commentary on Romans, written from a believing viewpoint?   Here is a great work by a great Christian scholar.  Murray's commentary was replaced by another fine commentary by Moo:

The Epistle to the Romans (New International Commentary on the New Testament) by Douglas Moo

Know Greek?  Dan Wallace's work is a must:

Beyond the Basics by Daniel Wallace

Dan's work is based upon computer analysis of grammatical and syntactical relationships in the New Testament.  Filled with examples, a valuable addition to your library.

The Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin

The classic formulation of Reformed theology, as fresh today as when it was first published.

The Church of Rome at the Bar of History by William Webster

Bill's works on Roman Catholicism are some of the best.  This is a fine work from Banner of Truth.  A must have for those interested in the subject.  It is also available in a paperback edition.

Salvation : The Bible and Roman Catholicism by William Webster

Shelley.gif (7424 bytes)Church History In Plain Language (2nd Edition) by Bruce L. Shelley

An excellent layman's work on church history in a very readable format.  Highly recommended!

A General Introduction to the Bible by Geisler and Nix

A well-written resource of information on the Bible's history, transmission, canon, etc.  A great resource for your library!
